Aggregate Industries Central Region employees donate $25,000 prize winnings back to local community organizaon

Last spring, the employees of Aggregate Industries’ Central Region were awarded the company’s 2007 CEO Award for Commitment to the Environment.  The award recognizes the efforts of the entire employee-base in the areas of environmental excellence at operating sites and in the surrounding communities.  After soliciting suggestions from the employees as to what should be done with the $25,000 prize money, the prevailing idea was to give the money back to the local communities. 

The region’s geographic market spread covers part of Michigan and Northern Indiana, so the decision was made in early 2008 to distribute the winnings back to the following community organizations: $5,000 to Southeast Michigan Sustainable Business Forum, Kalamazoo Nature Center, Friends of the Kal-haven Trail, and $10,000 to Jimmy F. New Foundation.

“The collective decision by our employees to give this prize money back to local community environmental organizations is really inspiring and is a true testament to the reasons they won the CEO Award in the first place,” said Philip Bowden, Central Region President.  “I think it is especially inspirational since this was not a corporate donation of sorts, but rather a way for each of them as individual employees to give back to their local environment,” continued Bowden.
