![]() Taking Off at O'Hare International Airport Meyer Materials is hard at work at Chicago O’Hare Airport where they are a part of a 10- year modernization project. The Meyers team has embarked on a 150,0000 cubic yard project that will run through the end of 2008. The scope of work inckudes providing concrete to 5 different contracts, along with the North Air Traffic Control Tower. Most of the contracts are for the duct banks being installed which are for electrical improvements across the airport; and a mix 8280 is being used. This mix 8280 is unique because of its 8000-psi compressive strength and the combination of materials used to meet that strength. At the North Air Traffic Control Tow, a special mix design consisting of 1200 cubic yards of colored 9272SC is being used. This mix is unique because of its 6000-psi compressive strength, and the addition of color and super plasticizer. Meyer serves the O’Hare Modernization Program from the Des Plaines yard, located just 3 miles North of O’Hare’s Northern gates. The Program will at least take a decade to complete and costs continue to rise to about $6.6 billion. Meyer Material is currently working with Walsh Construction, Kiewit, and their various sub-contractors on this job. O'Hare already generates 450,000 jobs and $38 billion in economic activity for the Chicago region and State of Illinois. A modernized O'Hare means the creation of 195,000 more jobs, and another $18 billion in annual economic activity. This project will have great impact on this area for decades to come! |
