Taking the lead on LEED: Sustainable development growing rapidly in US Over the past two years, the US has seen a dramatic growth trend in sustainable development. Builders and developers now have a wide array of environmentally conscious building materials from which to choose, and are in many cases spending more money to build with long term sustainability in mind. To encourage all developers to consider the sustainability of their construction projects, an organization called the U.S. Green Building Council has introduced the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, and Aggregate Industries US are proud to be members of the USGBC. This program is comprised of a national rating system to help developers rate how ‘environmentally efficient’ their building projects are. The LEED program is based on a points system, and developers can achieve Platinum, Gold or Silver LEED Certification for their project. In addition, there is a growing trend that many federal, state and local governments now require new government buildings to be LEED certified. Aggregate Industries products and services can contribute to a project’s sustainable development in seven different LEED categories, which focus on recycled aggregates and recycled concrete, pervious concrete, concrete with fly ash / slag cement and porous asphalt. The LEED program and the drive towards sustainable development in the US are expected to create a huge market opportunity in the coming years. To capitalize on this expected growth, Aggregate Industries has created a new brochure to help educate customers about the LEED program and how Aggregate Industries can help them gain valuable LEED credits on their projects. We are proud of offer our new “Aggregate Industries Guide to LEED Certification”, which is available in print and on the Aggregate Industries US web site, www.aggregate-us.com/LEED
