Aggregate Industries Reopens Swampscott Quarry

Rockville, MD, August 16, 2011 - Aggregate Industries US, a Holcim Group Company, announced today that it will reopen its Swampscott quarry located in Swampscott and Salem, Massachusetts on August 17, 2011.

"We are very happy to be reopening the quarry," said Graham Hardwick, senior vice president, Aggregate Industries Northeast. "Bringing jobs back to the area is good news. These are good-paying jobs that will help the local ecomony. Additionally, the reopening of the Swampscott quarry allows Aggregate Industries to service our customers by providing them with high-quality product produced locally."

"In these difficult times, adding quality jobs to the City's local economy is always a step in the right direction," stated Mayor Kimberley Driscoll of Salem. "Aggregate Industries has always been a strong community partner and we are glad to see them open for business in Salem once again."

Approximately 15 jobs have been restored as a result of the reopening of the Swampscott Quarry.

"We have been working with Aggregate Industries since 1994." said Gene Bardon, chairman, Earth Removal Advisory Committee, "We've had a very good, strong relationship with the management and employees and were disappointed when operations were halted at the end of 2009. The decision to reopen the quarry in Swampscott is a good thing for the community by bringing business back to the local area."

This 100-year old hard rock quarry has been inactive since the end of 2009. The economic downturn the region faced in 2009 was the basis for the decision to place the quarry in an inactive state.

Aggregate Industries US Inc. is a subsidiary of Holcim Ltd, supplying aggregate-based materials and contracting services. Aggregate Industries US has approximately 3,000 employees and operates in 16 states and 300 cities across the United States.
