Denver, CO, February 23, 2011 - Aggregate Industries West Central Region received three Best In Colorado Awards from the Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association (CAPA). Annually CAPA holds an Asphalt Pavement Awards ceremony to acknowledge the "Best in Colorado" contractors and agencies for producing high quality asphalt and construction projects.

The awards were presented in 17 categories and 5 Environmental categories for sustainable Asphalt pavements. Aggregate Industries' three Best In Colorado Awards are for Residential Subdivision; Commercial; and Urban Highway New or Reconstruction categories.

  • Residential Subdivision - Douglas County Overlay Program off Stonegate Parkway, Douglas County (21,709 tons HMA)

  • Commercial - Quaker Steak and Lube, Westminster (1,287 Tons HMA)

  • Urban highway New or Reconstruction - Hess Road Extension, Douglas County (12,943 Tons HMA)

  • "We are very pleased to recognize Aggregate Industries and Douglas County for this accomplishment. Receiving two Best In Colorado Awards on behalf of Aggregate Industries were Jerry Meier (General Superintendent), Tony Fernandez (Paving Foreman), Kurt Todeschi (Chief Estimator) and Ernie Chastain (Paving Superintendent). Douglas County was represented by Karl Lucero, Keith Burke, and Pete George (Project Manager).

The Douglas County Overlay Program consisted of milling and overlaying a number of streets in several residential neighborhoods. There were also several areas that required full depth paver patching. Over 20,000 tons of Grading S and SX hot-mix were placed and incorporated RAP at a rate of 15%. The Judges for the Award gave the project a perfect 10 in each of the rating criteria.

The Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association presents the Best In Colorado Quality Awards annually to recognize the quality efforts of asphalt producers, contractors, and agencies/owners in the State of Colorado. This year, 66 entries representing 41 projects were nominated for awards and 16 projects were recognized as the Best in Colorado in a variety of categories. Nominations are judged on overall quality and smoothness.
