The Michigan Aggregates Association Honors Aggregate Industries with the 2009 Safety Award

Aggregate Industries Midwest Region (Central Region) Receives Safety Awards for 10 of its facilities

Kalamazoo, MI, August 2, 2010 – Aggregate Industries Midwest Region (Central Region) received the 2009 Safety Awards from the Michigan Aggregates Association (MAA) for 10 of its facilities including Battle Creek Plant, Chelsea Plant, Edwardsburg Plant, Sweet plant, and Wayland Plant.

With the Safety Award Program, MAA recognizes its members that encourage and promote a safe work environment. In order to receive an award, a plant must have zero lost time due to accidents during the year. The Safety Awards were presented at the Summer Meeting in July.

Occupational Health and Safety is a key value of Aggregate Industries and is the primary consideration in every aspect of its business. At Aggregate Industries, they believe that: all incidents and accidents can be prevented; management has the responsibility for preventing injuries; it is possible to safeguard all operational exposures; through proper leadership and training, any task can be performed without injury; and working safely is a condition of employment.

Recently, Aggregate Industries has launched the National Safety Recognition and Celebration Program, “Zero Harm to People”, that reinforces the Company’s ongoing safety management system across the regions. The program’s key objective is to reduce incident frequency and the severity of those incidents.

The Michigan Aggregates Association (MAA) is a non-profit trade association founded in 1960 by a group of conscientious and environmentally concerned aggregate producers to protect and promote the interests, growth, and welfare of the Michigan aggregate industry.
