To encourage all developers to consider the Sustainability
of their construction projects, the U.S. Green Building Council has introduced
the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED) scheme. This comprises a national rating system to help
developers rate how ‘environmentally efficient’ their building
projects are.
We are proud of offer our newly updated (for LEED-NC,
v2.2) Aggregate
Industries Guide to LEED Certification (pdf), to educate our customers
about the LEED program and how Aggregate Industries can help developers
gain valuable LEED Credits. |

LEED focuses on a number of criteria including:
a) Site sustainability
b) Energy usage and air quality
c) Water efficiency
d) Materials and resource usage / transportation
e) Quality of the internal environment
f) Innovation and design
By means of a project checklist, those involved in a building
scheme can allocate credits to specific elements of a project, such as
the type of construction materials used. The aim of this rating system
is to accumulate enough points to reach a certification status, thereby
providing an overall environmental sustainability classification rating for a building project. |
