Crushed stone aggregates are produced from many natural deposits
including; limestone, granite, trap rock and other durable mineral
resources. Production of these products requires blasting and excavating
the broken stone from quarries followed by progressive stages of
crushing, screening, washing and blending. Our aggregate products
range in size from Rip-Rap, where each stone may weigh several tons,
to manufactured sand for use in concrete and asphalt products. The
numerous sizes and gradations are determined by their intended use
and each complies with the specifications established by governmental
agencies or our customer's requirements. Crushed stone is used in
the construction of highways, railroads, airports, water and sewage
systems, office buildings, factories and our homes. Beyond these
"aggregate" uses, crushed rock is also manufactured into fertilizer
and mineral components used in: roofing shingles, animal feeds,
toothpaste and many other household products.

Sand and gravel aggregate is produced in each of Aggregate Industries'
regional business units. These resources, harvested from both glacial
and alluvial deposits, are processed by a series of crushing, screening
and washing operations. The aggregate produced is subsequently used
in the manufacture of ready mixed concrete, asphalt, pre-cast concrete
products and as natural mineral base and for many other uses in
most construction projects. Our diligent quality control and flexible
processing plants ensure that a wide variety of products are available
to meet the needs and specifications of federal, state and local
agencies, as well as commercial and residential contractors. Our
sand and gravel products are also used for ice control to keep highways
safe during inclement weather, for filtration purposes and have
been used to rebuild beach environments along the shores of Lake
Michigan. Aggregate Industries utilizes trucks, railroads and barges
to deliver these products to our customers.

Rubble generated by the demolition of existing roads, buildings
and other construction projects can be recycled into useful construction
aggregate. Aggregate Industries processes this material into high
quality aggregate and asphalt products, thereby conserving our natural
resources while reducing waste sent to landfills. Material recovered
from the removal of asphalt paving is crushed, screened and reintroduced
into asphalt mixtures or is used as a base under new streets and
parking lots. Curb, pavements, foundations and sidewalks originally
built with ready mixed concrete are crushed into base materials. These
products economically augment our full line of naturally occurring
aggregates.

Aggregate Industries manufactures and sells ready mixed concrete in
each of our regional markets. Ready mixed concrete is a versatile construction
material produced by combining crushed rock or gravel aggregate,
sand, Portland cement and water. This common material is used in
a variety of construction projects including; home foundations,
stores, offices, streets, runways, bridges, sidewalks, and many
other facilities used in our daily lives. Delivery of ready mixed concrete
from our plant locations to the construction site is accomplished
with our growing fleet of mixer trucks guided by sophisticated dispatching
systems. Efficient delivery is critical with this perishable product,
as it begins to harden shortly after being mixed. The strength and
workability characteristics or ready mixed can be enhanced by the addition
of modifying agents. Using these methods ready mixed concrete can be
tailored to fit a broad range of construction environments.

In the United States, Aggregate Industries produces the new, unique
Bradstone brand of garden paving, walling and accents, and the Masterblock
line of concrete masonry units used in building and landscaping
projects. To a lessor extent small pre-cast products are manufactured
to augment our customers needs. Our block products range from the
familiar "gray" block used in foundations and commercial buildings
to "architectural" block that combines a variety of color and texture
into attractive easy-care building systems. Our Keystone landscape block produces attractive and economic retaining walls
and garden features. Paveloc is a concrete block paving business acquired as a part of the Meyer Material Co. acquisition and is
located near Chicago, IL.
Available from: Bradstone, Masterblock, Stonegarden Hardscapes and Paveloc

Asphalt or "bituminous concrete" is produced principally for use
in surface pavements. This combination of aggregate, liquid asphalt
cement and in some products recycled materials is installed by both
Aggregate Industries and our customers construction crews. Our production
facilities include large drum mix plants capable of high production
necessary to meet the demands of highway paving as well as batch
plants to supply the variety of products required by our commercial
customers. Asphalt creates durable streets, parking lots, driveways
and bike paths.

Using base products produced in the oil refining process and state-of-the
art blending systems, Aggregate Industries sells liquid asphalt
cements for paving and roofing applications. These products are
distributed throughout New England region from our two port/terminal
facilities located in Newington, New Hampshire and New Haven, Connecticut.

Aggregate Industries' contracting activities are principally focused
on the asphalt paving projects. This concentration of effort allows
us to refine our construction methods so that we provide the highest
quality workmanship to each project. Our success in this respect
has been recognized with awards for excellence from several state
and local governments and by the loyal patronage of our commercial
customers. Asphalt pavements, also called flexible pavements are
placed in a continuous process that produces a smooth surface containing
very few seams or joints. Our quality control programs measure the
"smoothness" of our paving using sophisticated profilograph instruments
to ensure that the road surface is safe and quiet.

In several of our operating regions, Aggregate Industries recycles
petroleum contaminated soils into viable, safe construction materials.
Each facility is fully permitted by the state and local authorities.
Soils contaminated with gasoline, fuel oil or other petroleum products
are accepted for recycling only after thorough testing determines
that the materials are classified as non-hazardous and therefore
amenable to the recycling process. Two methods, encapsulation and
bio-remediation, are used to convert these soils into environmentally
safe products for use as construction base or as soil cover for
landfills. The encapsulation process utilizes commercial emulsions
to bind the petroleum materials thereby preventing further migration
while bio-remediation uses natural occurring microbes to break down
the petroleum into inert soil substances.
Available in these US Regions: Northeast only.
